Your next level of growth comes down to two things:
1. Working harder
2. Letting go of the old you and stepping into a new identity
Hard work and discipline got you this far.
You’ve had big wins. Made big moves.
But let’s be real—working harder won’t get you to the next level.
The biggest seasons of growth in my life have come from identity shifts—not working harder.
In fact, working harder is a dumb strategy for most entrepreneurs doing over £150K a year.
Having coached hundreds of business owners, I’ve seen this time and time again—£150K is the cut-off point.
Beyond that, working harder doesn’t grow the business. It just makes you more tired.
Working smarter is what creates the monumental jumps.
It’s how you double, triple, or even 10x revenue—without burning out.
How do you work smarter, I hear you ask?
Simple.
Let go.
-
Let go of chasing monthly vanity metrics and focus on your mission.
-
Let go of control and hire people smarter than you.
-
Let go of your ego—ask for help.
-
Let go of playing small and get yourself into smarter rooms.
You don’t need more hustle.
You need to let go.
So here’s my question for you this week:
What identity shift do you need to make?
It’ll likely involve one or more of these:
-
Getting more eyeballs on your work and being okay with being seen (and criticized)
-
Making the hire you’ve been delaying (stop looking at it as a cost, you know they will help you grow faster)
-
Having the tough conversations you keep avoiding
-
Reinvesting the cash you’ve been hoarding
-
Dropping the constant narrative of “what if all my business dries up?”
-
Letting go of the need to feel busy to feel safe.
-
Trusting yourself—your skills, your instincts, your intent
You’ve already survived your worst days. You’re still here.
I’m writing this over coffee, getting ready to host 16 friends at the house for dinner.
Every single one of them is the type of person most entrepreneurs would love to sit down with and say, “Can I pick your brain?”
I didn’t build that social circle by working more hours.
I built it by changing who I was.
This week, we had our biggest cash collected week ever—
And I’m working less than 15 hours a week right now.
That didn’t happen by grinding harder.
It happened because I made an identity shift.
We hosted two massive client events earlier this week—
One at a top hotel in Belfast, the other at my home for our highest performers.
I attracted those clients because of who I became.
All of this was made possible by one thing: identity shifts.
Identity shifts are the real growth strategy.
Hustling harder just burns you out.
What got you here won’t get you to where you dream of going.
So I’ll leave you with this:
What do you need to let go of to unlock your next level?
You’ve got to kill the old you… to build the new you.
I know it’s Mother’s Day—but if this message hits, shoot me a reply and let me know what identity shift you’re making this month.
Until next week,
Phil Graham
