Gary Vee’s Advice For Online Personal Trainers

Are you at a crossroads in your business? These five lessons may help to get you back on track.
Many life and business lessons are interchangeable. It works like that because your mindset, environment, abilities, and behaviour affect your decisions.
It’s the main reason why I want to take this opportunity to dissect some important lessons from big-time speaker and entrepreneur Gary Vee.
He speaks about many of the things that I happen to agree with and I know these can help my fellow entrepreneurs and coaches in achieving their goals.
So, let’s get to it because there’s a lot to cover.
The Five Lessons Explained
Lesson #1 – Micromanage the Important Things
One of the core rules of being a successful entrepreneur is to focus on the most important things and delegate the rest of your tasks.
So, consider hiring someone to do the things you’re not good at or don’t have time for.
Why is this important?
I think there’s a massive fear felt by entrepreneurs that makes them believe that they have to do everything themselves. Some worry that nobody else will take specific tasks seriously. Others may believe no one has their attention to detail or incentive to get the job done right.
But all of this is a myth.
At least, it doesn’t have to be this way.
Your fears won’t turn into reality, provided you’ve created the necessary processes, steps, and expectations for someone to take over the smaller tasks. If you do that, you’ve essentially created a clear benchmark and understanding of what you expect.
For your life and business to improve, you can’t obsess over every little thing.
Do you want to achieve better results for your clients?
If that’s the case, then you have to coordinate your life around the three to five things that really move the needle. For example, when I talk to fitness clients, I talk about three currencies – money, impact, and freedom.
Now, my question for you is this…
What are the three to five things you should do every day as an entrepreneur? What are the things you’re best at?
Are you a genius in marketing and content creation? Or are you perhaps a great salesman?
So you think you’re a great coach, but are you terrific at admin work?
These are some of the things you have to figure out.
Why?
You see, one of the biggest mistakes I see in many entrepreneurs is the struggle. That is, they struggle to do everything from admin work to bookkeeping, web design, and beyond. They do these things even if it’s not what they’re good at.
I know that money is also a concern – if you decide to delegate, you’ll also have to invest some money.
However, don’t think of it as money invested and lost. Rather, it’s money you invest into preserving your energy so you can make better decisions. It’s money spent so that you have the space to think about the three to five things that matter most.
Obviously, those things will be different for everyone. But the key principle, and moral of the lesson, remains the same…
Delegating minor work should be one of your primary goals if you want to succeed and prevent burnout.
Lesson #2 – Surround Yourself with the Right People
I couldn’t agree more with this statement. Gary Vee speaks to the importance of finding friends that are both practical and optimistic.
Why does he say that?
He noticed what other great business leaders also see these days: people tend to let themselves be driven by fear and negativity. But they need more of the opposite in their lives.
When it comes to growing a business, you’ll inevitably run into some pessimistic people. It’s either people who share your fears or those who don’t want to see your dreams come true. But you’ll also meet optimistic ones.
Picking the people around you is very important. Why?
You need to know that there are a couple of types of individuals out there:
Take parents, for example.
They love and care for you. Because of that and because they know running a business is super risky, they may throw some negativity your way. They might ask you how are you going to pull it off. Or how can you expect to maintain it when you’re 50 or 60 years old.
But they’re not doing it from a bad place.
It’s just that they might not have the experience of owning a well-run business. So, they end up feeding you their fears unintentionally.
Next, you have those friends that have given up on their dreams. They’re not interested in changing or growing, so they don’t want you to achieve your dreams either.
You’ll start noticing this type of behaviour as you become more successful, busier, and give up some of your social life. When that happens, you become a different person – which some of your friends may dislike.
It happens when people start having different world views and values.
When you work on yourself, you try to match behaviour and speaking patterns with your new identity – the identity you want to assume.
And at some point, you’ll start to realise you can’t get to where you want to be by doing the same things you did before. That’s why it’s essential to surround yourself with the right people.
You’re looking for people with an objective mindset. You want those friends who are clear and focused on making an impact and growing their wealth. Maybe even people who want to collaborate with you, provided you’re in the same niche.
So, before moving forward, I want you to ask yourself…
Do you have friends who are stretching you thin or friends who are inspiring you?
Lesson #3 – Stop Caring About Other People’s Opinions
We’ve already covered the effects of negativity around you, so there’s not a lot to dissect here. However, the key point worth mentioning is that you should stop caring about the opinion of others.
And here’s why.
Naysayers and people who want to put you down won’t ever become your clients.
Now, here’s something I do all the time:
When someone criticises me, I ask myself if they’re in a position to advise me on anything. I guarantee you that, 10 times out of 10, they’re not.
Those people go out of their way to come up with something negative to say.
Those people have different values, expectations, perhaps even careers. They lack the expertise to judge and advise.
This lesson’s moral is to not let what others say to you affect your decisions or ambitions. Don’t allow other people’s judgement to dictate what you should do.
Lesson #4 – Communicate and Add Value
Here’s something you probably don’t know yet…
Your ability to communicate is in direct correlation to getting things done.
Communication is vital in all aspects of your life, whether social, personal, or professional. This means you have to be better at communicating with your family. The same thing applies when speaking to your team members or your clients.
Unfortunately, many entrepreneurs fail for not knowing what to say at the right time. They don’t use the right tone or are fearful of showing assertiveness.
So what about adding value?
It’s a straightforward affair. Every day, you have to add value to the marketplace. People forget you if you have nothing relevant to say or don’t speak it often enough.
Once that happens, you won’t make sales and you’ll miss countless opportunities to change lives. As if it couldn’t get any worse, you can also lose your overall confidence in your ability to grow your wealth.
When you add value, people park their interest in you. That’s when you have an opportunity to get them involved in your business, help them with their transformation, and solve their biggest problems.
It’s the reason why I always emphasise how much you have to design your business around your content and your communication around the problems your customers have.
Lesson #5 – Don’t Ask Yourself What-If
Gary Vee often speaks about regret. That is, regret and resentment are two of the worst things anyone can ever experience in life. They’re things you don’t want to be accumulating inside you over the years, and towards anyone.
I want to bring this back to an earlier point. What do you do if your parents ask you how you expect yourself to succeed or maintain a business in your 50s or 60s?
To that, I’d say:
Running a business is a pain at times. Of course, you have challenges along the way.
But as with anything else in life, you can’t escape challenges. However, anything great involves equal amounts of support and challenge.
That said, if you follow your dream, you won’t live with regret.
You won’t wonder for the rest of your life, “what if?”
You won’t build up resentment against those people who talked you out of doing what you wanted.
So, go on your mission and purpose. Expect challenges along the way and focus on overcoming them. Nothing comes free, and if running a successful business were easy, everyone would be self-employed.
Resisting the temptation to quit is a matter of willpower and having clarity on your ambitions. But you’ll need that willpower not to give up and find yourself in a worse position later.
A Balanced Life Leads to Success
In business, you need balance. You need to balance tasks, team members, clients, and even yourself.
It all starts with you and the willpower or discipline you have to get the job done.
Focus on the things you can do and let others handle other tasks. Get everyone on the same page and free your time to do what you do best for your business and customers.
Also, try your best to eliminate negativity from your life so it won’t alter your mindset and slip into your business. Whether it’s people who want to bring you down, or people criticising you, remember who’s important.
Don’t let anyone force you into living a life, or working a job, that you might one day regret, especially if you know you can impact other people’s lives for the better.
I hope this article helped you gain a different perspective and gave you the push to optimise your approach.
